My Ibis RS4 Build Thread

Well, as some of you know, I just picked up an '07 Ibis RS4...flew out to DC and drove it back to SoCal... When I picked it up in DC, my flight landed literally an hour before the start of the big-ass snowstorm currently crippling their infrastructure. The owner had it detailed before I picked it up:



...this was taken 2 hours after delivery:




I drove 2800miles in 3 days, saw temperatures ranging from 9deg to 73deg, and elevations from sea level to 10000ft and back. I washed it twice along the journey, and upon arriving home, had to wash it twice more just to get all the dirt out of all the various crevices. It still needs much more cleaning before I'm happy, as it'll probably never see snow/salt ever again...

As some of you also know, I have a B6A4 with a few goodies installed:


So for the next couple months, I'll be putting the A4 back to stock, moving all my go-fast bits over to the RS, and selling a few of the parts that won't transfer (see link in sig). Here's a list of what's going on the RS4 in the coming month:

Drivetrain:
-Stasis Motorsport coilovers (I'm still deciding on new spring rates and spring manufacturer)
-Hsport S4 rear swaybar
-Stern adjustable upper control arms
-Alcon 355mm Mono4 bbk & SS lines all around
-Apikol rear diff mount + 034 street density trans mount (maybe)
Interior:
-TTS steering wheel
-Q7 Rear view camera, DVD changer, rear shelf amp-rack, kick panels, fiberglas sub enclosure, etc...
Engine:
-I'll be cleaning out the carbon, setting up a catch-can, and poking around the pcv system for any anit-carbon work-arounds.

This is just the list of things coming off the A4. Additional mods & wheel selection will be kept under wraps until I get all the above sorted out.

I'll try my best to be dilligent and take lots of pics as I move all the mods over. If there is anything in particular you'd like to see in more detail, please let me know...

nice ride, love the ibis. I dig the painters tape, did the same thing on my trip down to Tenn. I got a ton of funny looks, but it saved my front end.

I love the mods going into the car... Is the Hsport S4 rear sway stiffer than stock RS4 rear sway? It's probably not a big deal, but do you think you can upgrade the rotor size on your Alcon BBK?

I love the mods going into the car... Is the Hsport S4 rear sway stiffer than stock RS4 rear sway? It's probably not a big deal, but do you think you can upgrade the rotor size on your Alcon BBK?

The Hsport is 24mm vs. 22mm OEM rs4. I made the same swap on my A4, 22mm > 24mm and it was a substantial difference. If you haven't done it yet...do it! I may bump up to the Hsport rs4 bar (29mm) just to try it out as well...

As for the rotors, I plan on running 18s as track wheels...if I can verify they fit around 370s, I'll make the bump...otherwise, I've yet to fade my 355s...

You should be fine with the sways than.. I actually have F&R hsport rs4 sways... very stiff and love it ;)

I think you'll be fine with 370 mm rotors and 18"... if I recall correctly.. there are a few RS4 guys on QW running 18" track wheels with their 370 mm alcon setups.

As for the 370s... I already have my track wheels picked out, and I'm working with them on the inner barrell diameter. I know ngng fit his volks around them, and I think jet jockey fit his volks around his as well... If I can fit bigger...I'm definitely goin bigger

I'm pretty sure Jet only runs 328mm Mono4 fronts unless he upgraded again. 355s will be fine, I doubt you'll have any fade with them.

I feel your pain...I flew to Steamboat Springs Colorado from Canada only to pick up my 07' Ibis RS4 (with cleared corners and Blue painters tape on the hood) and drive it back 27 hours to Toronto. Impossible to keep clean.

Lol it's probably closer to 1000lbs lighter. Good point. I'm thinking it's not the fade, but the braking force that's an issue. The Mono4 that koolade has was designed for the A4 master cylinder. the RS4 has a bigger master cylinder designed for brakes with bigger/ more pistons.

Either way, incredible pick-up koolade and nice line-up of mods already going on the car. That car is going to be damn near perfect. What wheels are you going with?

^^^I wanted the Ti package...but I didn't want to give up CF trim...or add it on later. I really like the brushed window trim and mirrors...
