January '09 Featured AZ'er: FrankA6's 2004 A6 sedan

January 5, 2009 - By Audizine Staff
User Name: FrankA6
Real Name: Frank Park
Location: Pennsylvania, Mid-Atlantic USA
Year of Vehicle: 2004
Model of Vehicle: A6 S line
Engine of Vehicle: 2.7T
Color of Vehicle: Night Blue Pearl Effect

It's the new year and that means we have our first Featured AZ'er of 2009. This is also the first time we're featuring an A6. Sure it took us a full year of feature articles to finally get to the A6 model-line, but we feel that the bad-boy you see here will make up for it. The owner, Frank (AKA: FrankA6), may have only owned his Audi for about a year now but he's in it all the way. He's 100% dedicated to the European tuner scene, to the Audizine Community, and he has certainly hooked his car up nicely. This was more than enough to get him noticed, even if he doesn't think so. As you can see by the accompanying photos it's a stunner in both summer and winter mode.

At the time of this article Frank's A6 is currently "winterized", sitting on eighteen inch OEM nine-spokers. In the sunnier months around Pennsylvania it was riding on a set of Raderwerks Mten-80s. Next summer though he's stepping things up another inch and going with nineteens. The right height's been dialed down thanks to a combination of Konis and Eibachs. Again though, he'll be changing things up in the months ahead with a setup by Bilstein and H&R. To get more out of the A6's 2.7 liter engine and its twin turbos, Frank has so far gone with intake parts by AWE and ITG with the exhaust coming from APR. Again, more in store for this summer by means of a GIAC software upgrade.

Frank certainly sounds familiar - an enthusiast that's never quite satisfied and always striving for perfection. Most of us here know that feeling all too well. I know I can definitely relate to an obsession with making my baby unique and keeping her clean, sometimes literally shining it up more than once in a single day. Oh the joys owning a dark color. Nothing looks better when clean than a black or a dark blue, but conversely nothing looks worse when dirty! On that note we wanted to say a thank you to Frank for braving the chilly dampness of PA this time of year. For detailing his fantastic looking A6, and getting us some truly stunning photos. Now that's dedication!

Q (Audizine): Alright first question, how long have you owned the A6?
A (Frank): About a year. Not much has been done.

Q: Seems like an awfully good start to me. How has your ownership been with it overall?
A: It's an Audi, so same as everyone else's. It's love/hate, but mostly love.

Q: Do you think you'll get another one anytime soon?
A: Maybe an A8 or C6 4.2 in a few years.

Q: Is this your first Audi? If not, what other models and years have you owned?
A: Yeah, this is my first.

Q: And how long have you been into Audis and in the European tuning scene?
A: So I've owned this one about a year, but have had my eyes on VAG cars and the Euro scene for quite some time.

Q: So how long have you been into cars in general, as an enthusiast?
A: Since I could remember, but modding for about 4-5 years now.

Q: Now where do you think that passion and enthusiasm comes from, can it be traced back to anyone or anything?
A: Yeah, my dad. He always had VWs and Porsches so I get 100% of it from him. When he restored his 1961 Porsche 356 I was always with him. He was a good teacher, and from that I was hooked.

Q: What do you love most about your A6?
A: Well for one, not too many people mod A6s. It's a nice, classy, drivable, fast car. A real sleeper to the common person.

Q: What's your biggest peeve in regards to the car, the one thing you dislike the most?
A: The color. I mean I love the color, and would buy it again, but it gets really dirty really fast. I have to wash the car twice a day at times!

Q: Can you explain your modding style? Do you prefer more go, more show, perhaps a combo of both?
A: I like a combo of both. I love the Euro/Retro style, a very clean look. And also the VIP-look / wheel-whoring look. I like to say "you can't always go fast, but you can always look good".

Q: Do you prefer to do the work yourself, or do you have a shop or specific person do the work for you?
A: I do what I can without a lift, but when needed I have a nice indy shop here in PA that does great work!

Q: Which mod are you the most proud of or happy with?
A: Pretty much the whole car, and sticking to a clean look. But, I'm always thinking of new things and the car will have a new look for summer.

Q: Can you describe your fondest memory of owning, modifying, or driving your Audi?
A: Getting rid of the horrid 17" factory wheels. Man that was a great day. The A6 isn't a small car, so I don't know why Audi would even think of putting
anything smaller than 18"s on it.

Q: What would be in your ultimate garage, if money were no object yet you could only choose two or three vehicles?
A: An MTM C5 RS 6 as my daily, a 996/997 GT2 as my weekend car, and a TVR Sagaris for my track car. Perfect!

Q: What do your friends and family think about your passion for cars?
A: Hey, it's just a "car" to them. They think it's a big money pit.

Q: How does your love for cars, and Audis, affect your life? Does it play a big part?
A: Well I do spend A LOT of time cleaning and modding it. Other than that, it's my car, and I use it everyday. I kinda need it. (laughs)

Q: So how did you find Audizine, and how long have you been with us?
A: Been on AZ about a year. I didn't care much for the "other" car forums, so I settled down here. Guess I just Googled "audi forums".

Q: When you're not on Audizine, or out cleaning the Audi, what do like to you do for fun?
A: Photography, ice hockey, my computer, family, and spending most of my time with my girlfriend.

Q: Do you have an interesting day job or another daily pastime?
A: I played semi-pro ice hockey last season, and may continue that next season. Been playing since I was 4 years old.

Q: Any word of advice for your fellow enthusiasts? Some wisdom you'd like to share with the masses?
A: Stand out from the crowd and change it up. Go crazy and don't look back!

Q: I'm all for that! Alrighty so to wrap it up, do you have anyone you'd like to mention or thank?
A: To everyone in the A6/S6/RS6/allroad Forum for putting up with my pic whoring. For all the fun times and the help they give. Also to my girlfriend Hillary who never complains and is always there for me no matter what. To my Mom and Sister for always putting up with me and my stubborn ways, and to my Dad who has recently passed away. May he rest in peace. He's my biggest hero and I owe everything to him. Miss and love ya Dad!
