August '08 Featured AZ'er: EvotechTT's 2002 TT Coupe

August 1, 2008 - By Audizine Staff
User Name: EvotechTT
Real Name: Sal Reynosa
Location: Los Angeles, CA, USA
Year of Vehicle: 2002
Model of Vehicle: TT (Mk I)
Engine of Vehicle: 1.8T (225HP)

So they say size doesn't matter. Now I'm not quite sure who "they" are, but in this case it may be true. It doesn't matter that the TT scene is one of the smaller ones within the Audi enthusiast community. It doesn't matter that the TT is one of the smallest cars that Audi sells. No, what matters in this case is that this particular TT is done right. It is modified to one's own personal taste to stand apart from all others. This month's Featured AZ'er is a longtime enthusiast and an active member within the scene. He goes by the username EvotechTT, but his real name is Sal. He's the owner of one beefy TT. Wait, is that an oxymoron? No, that's a type of t-shirt...wait, no. Anyway, maybe size really does matter after all. Sal's taken a normal old TT, enhanced it, and here we are today - a Featured AZ'er.

There's not much on this car that hasn't been touched, to either make it look tougher, go faster, or stop harder. There are also those mods that do double-duty, that both improve upon function and just happen to make the car look good while doing it. For instance, the Sparco Torino Race Seats and the H&R coilover suspension. Then there's the plain old looking-good-mods. At the front you may notice the bumper isn't stock. No, it's by Caractere, along with the front grille and sideskirts. There are also rear upper and lower spoilers by Uberhause and the back bumper is by Mattig. This is where the tips from the custom exhaust by Fast Intentions poke out through. The wheels are by Work. They're called Meisters, and they too are beefy. They're 19 by 8.5 inches up front and 19 by 9.5 inches out back! Behind those are more beef. We're talking big old slabs of blood-red StopTech sirloin.

Sal didn't just set this car up to go like heck and corner on a dime, but he's out to win shows as well. This becomes apparent when the hood is popped and the back hatch is raised. Up front is a custom created, expertly painted, immaculately clean engine bay. Out back is a high-fi wonderland of amps, subs, and capacitors, which are all awash in a bath of blue light. In talking with Sal it's evident that he is very happy with the results he's gotten for his time and money. He's created a one-of-a-kind car which stands out enough to catch even the eye of someone that may normally overlook your average stock TT. Perhaps it's that extra bit of beef that the original TT has always kind of needed. Unless of course you're a vegetarian.

Q (Audizine): How long have you owned your TT?
A (EvotechTT): 3 Years.

Q: How has your ownership been over that time?
A: Its been very good, no problems whatsoever. (knocks on wood)

Q: Think you'll be getting another one anytime soon?
A: Another Audi? Maybe!

Q: Is this your first Audi?
A: Yes, this would be my first Audi.

Q: How long have you been into Audis and into the European tuning scene?
A: Ive always liked all kinds of models and makes but European has been my favorite. Ive been in the scene for about 15 years. Damn Im old!

Q: How long have you been into cars in general, as an enthusiast?
A: The full 15.

Q: Where do you think that passion and enthusiasm comes from, can it be traced back to anyone or anything?
A: My dad and uncles who love cars. They were the ones who got my hooked on it.

Q: What do you most love about your car?
A: I love the way it looks. The look it has is timeless and classy.

Q: What's your biggest peeve in regards to the car, the one thing you dislike the most?
A: Hmmmmmmmm...

Q: Can you explain or sum up your modding style? Do you prefer more show or more go?
A: Id prefer a little of bothnot too fast and not too wild.

Q: Do you prefer to do the work yourself, or do you have a shop or specific person perform the work?
A: I wish I could do my own work, but Im all thumbs. I have trusted shops and very good friends who help me install my parts.

Q: Which mod are you the most proud of or happy with?
A: My Wheels. Thanks Ali!

Q: So what is your fondest memory of owning, modifying, or driving this vehicle?
A: I have so many. I guess when I took first place in a car show.

Q: What would be in your dream two-car garage, if money were no object and you could have any vehicle that you wanted?
A: Thats a tough question. Ferrari Dino and Veyron!

Q: What do your friends and family think about your passion for Audis?
A: (laughs) My mom and sister think I am a nut for spending so much money on my cars, but they know that I have a passion for them so they understand. My girlfriend totally supports me. She is wonderful and a car enthusiast as well.

Q: How does your love for cars and Audis affect your life? Does it play a big part at all?
A: I cant say it affects my life that much but it does play a big part in it. It makes me very proud to own a car of this caliber.

Q: What brought you to Audizine, and how long have you been with us?
A: One of my friends told me about it. I just cant remember which one. Ive been here since I got my car. About 3 years.

Q: When you're not on Audizine, or out playing with the Audi, what do like to you do for fun?
A: I love training! I love weightlifting and MMA (Mixed Martial Arts). Im also a big gamer. I love video games.

Q: Do you have an interesting day job? Care to talk a little bit about it?
A: Im an internal auditor for a private bank based in downtown Los Angeles.

Q: Any word of advice for your fellow enthusiasts, a bit of wisdom you'd like to impart on the masses?
A: When working on a project take your time and make sure you will be happy with the outcome. In other words go with what you like, dont let others tell you what to do. That is how originality is created.

Q: That pretty much wraps things up. Would you like to give any final thank yous or shout-outs?
A: Most definitely! I would like to thank my girlfriend for being so supportive cause without her blessing and patience my car would still be stock. My mom and sister for always being there.  My dad - RIP - who always loved my cars and told me to never give up and pursue my dreams. All my friends from Team Evotech. My friend Garry Summers for always helping me out and giving me good advice. My friend Nathan Lloyd for selling me the car. My dear friend John Sugata who is like a brother to me, for all his help and stickers - you are the man John. I would also like to thank all the shops that helped me out as well; Wicked Motorsports, Rodz, Fast Intentions, EuroCode, and Eurowurx.
